Event Overview

Millbrook Conferences and Events was asked to organise and plan an intimate yet grand drinks reception and dinner as part of a wider four-day, education-packed meeting.

Briefed to find two suitable venues for reception drinks and a sophisticated Christmas dinner in the evening for 150 people, St Paul’s Cathedral and Drapers’ Hall came out on top. Prestige and located in the heart of London, the two venues immediately set expectations high and created a sense of anticipation.

The drinks reception took place on Monday, 5 December 2022 – night one of the four-day conference – whilst the festive banquet took place on night three, Wednesday, 7 December 2022. After a day of intense learning, it was essential that guests felt at ease to mingle and chat with one another.

The Solution

Millbrook Conferences and Events built a bespoke registration page to capture guest information, including their dietary requirements and whether they would like to attend the drinks reception, dinner, or both.

Having discussed the client’s requirements, Millbrook Conferences and Events conducted an in-depth venue search to ensure it hit the client’s brief and budget. Having obtained more information and organised site visits before the events, St Paul’s Cathedral and Drapers’ Hall ticked the boxes for magnificence, traditional and historical. In short, both venues offered a real wow factor!

Drinks Reception

The reception drinks were held at St Paul’s Cathedral within The Crypt, accessible via Nelson’s Chamber. Upon arriving at St Paul’s Cathedral, guests were given a 45-minute guided tour of the vibrant church, which is home to a spectacular array of art.

The marvelling did not stop there, though, as guests headed down to Nelson’s Chamber and The Crypt for tantalising tipples, courtesy of Food Show, and live music from a four-piece jazz band, Cambata Music, as no reception drinks would be complete without entertainment! The Crypt was dressed for the occasion with regal red lighting and tablecloths. The addition of candles and a twinkling Christmas tree created a warm and cosy atmosphere.

Dinner

Drapers’ Hall was another sight to behold, exuding elegance and brimming with history at every head turn.

Livery Hall, situated in Drapers’ Hall, set the scene for the three-course Christmas meal. The vast ceiling of Livery Hall is adorned with scenes from Shakespeare’s plays, and around the walls, fine silver. Featuring marble columns, a gallery structure and hung with royal portraits, this is where Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and other heads of state have dined.

With a cabaret layout, the tables were dressed in branded Christmas crackers to add an element of fun. In keeping with the time of year, a Christmas tree was on display as well as traditional menus, where guests could choose from chicken liver pâté, roast turkey with all the trimmings, seasonal vegetable risotto and more accompanied with a glass of white or red wine.

The Result

The two evenings were very well received, with 150 guests in attendance. When asked what the highlight of both winter soirées was attendees said: “Course dinner” and “Drinks at St Paul’s Cathedral and dinner at Drapers’ Hall.”

The client commented: “Conferences are more than just an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest trials, data, and devices. They are also a chance to reconnect with friends old and new as well as exploring the hidden gems of the host city.

The conference drinks reception was held in St Paul’s Cathedral; a truly stunning venue particularly at Christmas and steeped in history. Everything was fantastic, from the private guided tours for the faculty and attendees, to the background music provided by Mr. Tom Cambata and his band, and delectable cocktails and canapés.  I could not fault a single thing!

The gala dinner was in the equally jaw-dropping Drapers’ Hall, a true hidden gem in London! Fantastic food, great company, in beautiful surroundings in addition to world-class speakers and education. I could not have been more pleased with how everything went and with all the assistance of the marvellous Millbrook team to ensure everything was carried off without a hitch!”

Millbrook Conferences and Events hired a photographer to capture all the memories from the two nights. Looking at the photos alone, Millbrook Conferences and Events is sure you will agree it went above and beyond in organising and planning an intimate yet grand and impactful drinks reception and dinner for its client.

Matt Daly, Event Conference Manager at Millbrook Conferences and Events, added:

We had such an amazing turnout for both the welcome drinks and Conference dinner. The feedback has been superb on the food, band and overall experience the guests had. The ‘WOW look’ on people’s faces as they saw these amazing venues was a sign that we had made the right choice in our locations for these two events. We now just have to raise the bar again for 2023!”
